Test Day, Silverstone, 7th March
Testing went well after some modifcations over the winter. Handling was good although lap times were average. A minor electrical problem witht he ignition system was cleared up.
Winter Series Round 1, Silverstone National, 17 th March.
The team battled with snow storms throughout the day, practice looked promising, with suspension settings adjusted for the conditions. Although posting some excellent lap times during the first part of qualifying, a con rod failure occured on lap five resulting in the engine block, gearbox and clutch housing being destroyed. To add insult to injury, our sponsors had struggled through even worse conditions to get to see us!
Modified Saloons, Lydden Hill, 19th September.
With the slower "donkey" engine installed and a last minute tyre decision, Driver Mark opted for slicks rather than wets because the track was wet and drying. Most of the rest of the field were sporting grooved rubber. We qualified 7th out of 19, with a best lap of 51.5. Bearing in mind the grid was made up of the like of Escorts, Cosworths, Nova's, Rovers and Puegeots, this was thought to be a good placing. In the race, most of the opposition had followed our lead to slick tyres and we started well although losing some places to higher powered cars. After a good four laps being chased by a Triumph Vitesse 2.5 L, we managed to break away from the pack to finish 8th out of 17 and achieve a 2nd in class, with a fastest lap of 49.8.
Winter Series Round 6, Brands Hatch, 21st November
Again, taking wets as heavy rain had left the track very damp, the diff, which had given trouble even on the trip to scrutineering, let go after 5 laps. Unusually, its failure didn't lock the drive train and Mark was able to coast to the infield to retire.
